SHOE FIT FAQ
Shoe sizing is difficult to determine, without going to an experienced shoe fitter. Everyone's feet are different and with most people, right and left feet can vary in size, width and shape. Your shoe size can even change over time! We recommend getting tour feet measured with a Brannock device at least once a year to ensure the correct sizing. Please do not attempt to measure your own foot, we've found that the majority of the time it leads to mistakes in measurement and the wrong size selection. Materials and manufacturing variations can affect the fit-creating a lot of possible variations on any one pattern. However, we fit test our shoes and have found most fit true to size and we recommend ordering your normal US size. For more details on how to find your perfect fit, please see our Fit Guide.
Yes, we are known for our variety of widths. Please check our Shopping Guide, Shop by Size & Width page to find the styles available in the perfect width for you. We also offer adjustability in most of our styles to help accommodate variations in your feet and to allow you to customize the fit. Please see the rest of our Shoe Fit FAQ or our Fit Guide for details about shoe widths.
Every shoe company has a different definition of what “wide width” is. It can be any width past your standard “M (B)” for Women or “M (D)” for Men which is your traditional/standard shoe width. This is also where we differ, we not only offer our shoes in “wide width,” we also offer a total of 6 widths for Women and 5 for Men. We carry the following widths for Women: Slim, also labeled as S or (4A) Narrow, also labeled as N or (AA) Medium, traditional/standard shoe width also labeled as M or (B) Wide, also labeled as W or (D) Extra Wide, also labeled as X or 2E 2X Wide, also labeled as XX or 4E We carry the following widths for Men: Narrow, also labelled as N or (B) Medium, traditional/standard shoe width also labelled as M or (D) Wide, also labelled as W or (E) Extra Wide, also labelled as X or 3E 2X Wide, also labelled as XX or 5E.
Letters after the size are the width of the shoe. If a retailer offers sizes beyond the “traditional” or “standard,” which is typically called Medium, then there will be numbers after the size. So a women’s Medium size 7 could be labeled just 7 or 7M or 7M(B). Another example, a Men’s extra wide size 10 could be labelled as 10X or 10X(3E).
M or sometimes labeled (B) is the women’s labeling for the “traditional” or “standard” width shoe, this is also sometimes written out as Medium. M or sometimes labeled (D) is the men’s labeling for the “traditional” or “standard” width shoe, this is also sometimes written out as Medium. If you have questions about how to know what width of shoe you need or what sizes and widths we offer, please check the rest of our Shoe Fit FAQ, our Fit Guide, or contact Customer Care.

Dirt, sand and grit will degrade the materials in your shoes, particularly the leather, glue and stitching. We recommend keeping your shoes clean for best results. Normal shoe cleaning guidelines: The key to cleaning footwear is to not soak the shoes or boots. Use enough soapy water to clean, but as little as possible. When drying, do not use excessive heat because this can damage the leather, glues and sole materials. 1. Remove excess dirt first. Use a soft-bristled brush (shoe brush, old toothbrush) to clean the outsole. 2. Mix warm water and a small amount of mild detergent so the mixture is slightly soapy but not too sudsy. 3. Use a sponge, soft cloth or soft brush to apply a small amount of your soapy water to clean the shoes. 4. Using another sponge or soft cloth, apply a small amount of warm water to remove any excess detergent. 5. Air dry the shoes at room temperature keeping them away from heat sources. 6. Repeat, if necessary. We recommend shoe cleaning products from Nikwax. Saddle soap and Sno-Seal can soften leather, so please be aware that leather can change if you use these products. Unless your Propet shoes are marked as Washable, we do not recommend putting them in the washing machine. Please check our website for the Washable icon. This icon indicates which styles may be washed in a washing machine. Propet 'Washable' shoe cleaning guidelines: 1. Knock off loose dirt with a soft-bristled brush or sponge: remove the insoles. 2. Wash on regular cycle, cold water setting. 3. Air dry the shoes at room temperature, keeping them away from heat sources.
